Salmon and Big Babies

Last week my dad was telling us about how the salmon were spawning up at Causey and it was supposed to be really cool. So on a whim, David and I, Austin, Annie and my dad headed up there after work. It was rainy and muddy for a little while and we hiked back in the dark. What an adventure! And it was actually really cool. We hiked through a lot of mud and bushes but it was worth it to see all the salmon working so hard to swim upstream. It was a nice little hike and didn't take too long. I'm glad we did it.


See it? That is a moose and you can't see it in this picture but there is a baby moose behind the tree. Crazy!

It's kind of hard to see in the picture but the red things in the stream are the salmon.

Now do you see them? I wanted to catch some to take home and eat SO BAD but you are not allowed to. Seriously, you can catch them with your hands easily.

These babies are getting so BIG!!! I can't believe it how fast they're growing. From left to right: Jamy and Colby Jex's baby McKenzie, Seiko Jensen's baby, Olivia, and Steven and Amelia Miles's baby, Lincoln. So cute!

On Sunday we fed the ducks at the WSU duck pond and those geese got frighteningly close. Olivia could not keep her eyes off them.




The newest development: Olivia can pull herself up. Sometimes we go in her room when she is ready to get up from a nap and she will be standing in her crib just watching for us.

Can you guess what happened here? David was so sweet to make us dinner a few nights ago and forgot the cookbook was on the stove when he turned it on. Curse these flat-top ovens! And have you ever breathed in smoke from burning plastic? It was burning our lungs! I'm glad he did that though because now we have a souvenier to remember that night.

More Labor Day

This is a little late but we spent the rest of Labor Day weekend with the Stevensons. The highlight was probably our little excursion up the Indian trails, which turned out to be an adventure, getting lost and rock climbing most of the time.

Timp

Labor Day weekend we spent with my family at the cabin in Sundance. We also hiked Timpanogos. I have done this hike 3 times now and each time I say to myself, "Okay, I did it. I never have to do it again." Yet I find myself doing it again. It is a beautiful hike but it is very steep and takes all day. Olivia, my dad, and I hiked as far as Emerald Lake while everyone else took an extra 2 hours to hike to the summit and back. I was very impressed with both David and my dad. My dad is 51 years old- pretty good for an old man! And David, who had knee surgery 3 months ago, made the trek with Olivia on his back. That's an extra 300 pounds! (Just kidding about the pounds, in case anyone is really wondering if Olivia weighs that much).
